Using charcoal on canvas, Hannes Heinrich creates abstract compositions that are preceded by a wrapping of the depicted bodies (often his own) with the canvas. In this way, Heinrich develops drawing imprints, where the action precedes the pictorial thought and to which he reacts compositionally in the further. In his latest works, motifs and bodies appear only in shadow, while the rough materiality of the charcoal coating on untreated canvas appeals to the sense of touch of the eye. Traces of making, the process of image formation, the performative aspect to image making but also the human body and individual relationship to one’s own body are visualized themes in Hannes’ art.
Hannes Heinrich lives and works in Munich. He studied painting at the AdBK Munich under Karin Kneffel from 2010 to 2021, most recently as a master student. From 2013 to 2014 he studied during a stay abroad at the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) in London, UK and was supported for this with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service. Various group exhibitions followed, primarily in Bavaria but also in Leipzig and Hamburg, and from 2018 annual solo exhibitions in various galleries and institutions, most recently at Galerie Jahn & Jahn in Munich. Up to and including 2023, he worked as an artistic assistant for Karin Kneffel at the AdbK Munich.
