Katrin Brause completed her studies in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig with a diploma in 2005. She then went on to do a master students degree with Prof. Neo Rauch. In 2007 she received a master student scholarship from the free state of Saxony. Brause lives and works in Leipzig and with her figurative painting she is a renowned representative of the new Leipzig School.
The spatial and aesthetic context of Katrin Brause’s current series of works “Speranza” ist the city of Catania in Sicily. Taken from this social space, the artist transfers everyday objects and arrangements found in the streets, as well as the role of faith in people’s daily lives, into her painting. In doing so, Brause creates stilllifes which fascinate through their presence, the use of allegories on human biographies, ideas, thinking and acting - whereby these allegories come up with thoroughly ambivalent statements.
