Yuhao Chen’s paintings bring together different traditions of seeing within a
distinctly contemporary approach to image-making. Human figures frequently
provide the point of departure for his compositions, yet their physiognomies
remain elusive as bodies, architecture, and landscape merge into one
another. Western traditions of painting intersect with spatial principles drawn
from classical Chinese painting and digitally generated imagery, resulting
in enigmatic scenes in which physical presence and painterly dissolution,
familiarity and estrangement coexist.
Yuhao Chen (*1991, China) studied at the China Academy of Art before
continuing his education at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, where he
completed his studies in 2023 as a master student of Anke Doberauer. He
lives and works in Munich and was selected for the Young Generation Art
Award 2026, initiated by Monopol and Degussa. His work is currently being
presented at Kiaf SEOUL 2026 in South Korea.
