Julian Simon DE, b. 1994

Julian Simon (*1994, Germany) is a Berlin-based artist. He studied fine art and painting at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. He is a proud recipient of the 2022 Marin Painting Prize.

Julian Simon creates evocative paintings using a limited palette of ultramarine blue, alizarine crimson, cadmium yellow, ebony black, and titanium white. His works are characterized by a muted spectrum and a hazy, nostalgic quality that explores memory and emotional complexity. Simon juxtaposes surreal, snapshot-like motifs with intentionally added elements-such as animals or objects charged with symbolism that highlight the interplay between recollection and imagination. Through this layered approach, Simon delves into the vulnerability of confronting personal fears and emotions, offering viewers a lens to embrace their own.
